To Rediscover, maintain, and create epic trails in Southern Oregon

People who care about our trails

Join us to explore and work on local trails! We are a fun, hard-working volunteer community dedicated to restoring multi-use trails while fostering connections with all trail enthusiasts and land managers.

Origins

SOTA was founded in 2017 by a group of passionate local mountain bikers. Over the next several years, SOTA was pivotal in maintaining and developing new trails in Southern Oregon. Having built strong relationships with land managers and secured funding to purchase a fleet of trail tools and a few e-bikes, SOTA focused heavily on the Taylor Creek/Briggs Valley area, built the Sugar Bowl trail at Cathedral Hills, and helped get the Dollar Mountain Trails project rolling.

The “New” Sota

Trails took a backseat as life got busy, and SOTA slowed down in the early 2020s. In 2024, local trail users looking for ways to get involved in trail maintenance in the region discovered that SOTA was on the verge of shutting down. One conversation led to another, and a group of friends volunteered to take over management of the non-profit.

With a fresh perspective and excitement about maintaining Southern Oregon trails, the “new” SOTA board set up a new mission and vision and have been working to re-engage with the community, land managers, and other trail stewardships.

SOTA meets monthly to discuss past and upcoming projects, brainstorm new ideas, hear opinions and comments from the community, and vote on where we’re sending our tools and volunteer trail crew next! We’re always welcoming fresh faces to help us keep trails alive and drive the future of SOTA. If you’re interested in joining a board meeting, head over to our events calendar.
